Agricultural Journalist of the Year

The Glenn Cunningham Agriculture Journalist of the Year Award was presented to a team in 2010. The winners, who placed first in the series category, were Marcia Zarley Taylor, Elizabeth Williams, Dan Miller, Des Keller and Jim Patrico of DTN/The Progressive Farmer.

There entry, “Young farmers” ran from January-November, 2009. Here’s what judge Dan Day, director of interactive media at the Modesto Bee had to say about it:
“This series is brilliant. The writing is crisp, clear and engaging. The stories of the young farmers profiled are compelling and display multiple facets of the industry. The writer (writers?) used well-chosen details and terrific quotations to bring these stories to life. I was particularly impressed with the skillful way the writer wove Census and other industry data into the narrative. This series had substance and style aplenty. Outstanding journalism, outstanding writing, for an ag audience or a general audience.
